The Beginning

Let’s get started!

There are so many amazing ideas, but here’s a way to get the ball rolling:

– Approval needed from a property/business owners for a suitable location. Sponsorships and prize money will also be encouraged – artists shouldn’t only get a pat on the back for their hard work!

Do you know a property owner on Main Road? Are they interested in getting involved? Would they like to get all the free publicity for their business that would come with the launch of this initiative? Ask them – and let’s begin! – Donations of paint (interior or exterior) from the community. (A good time to clean out that garage!)

Once we know the range of colours, we can then find additional donations that the winning artist will need to complete the work. – Artists will be invited to visit the location, see the paint colours selected for that location, and can submit their ideas. Any additional paint required will be solicited through donations. A list of paint colours will also be available for anyone heading to a hardware store and can add a can to the shopping list.

- A Project Leader will be chosen by the group at the next public meeting who will be the Point-of Contact for everything related to this first project. Every project will be managed under the same set of values and goals, and will at all times reflect the community’s wishes in a majority decision.

– All entries will be posted on this website and in participating stores so residents can vote on their favourite. Voting will be open for 2 weeks. This remains, first and foremost, a community project. Anyone can vote, everyone has a say. If your choice doesn’t win this time around, it may be considered for a future, different location. – The winning artist will be selected by majority vote. Prize money will be sought for the artist, and they will be invited to exhibit/sell their “usual work” at the opening of the mural.

Revamp Fish Hoek will work with the artist and all interested parties at every stage to ensure deadline is kept, work is completed as per the original design, and all needs of the artist AND the community are met.

We hope that this is something residents of the valley will get into the habit of seeing, looking forward to the next vote, or participating in a “community wall” where anyone can come and paint between the lines!

Always a community effort. Always. NO decisions behind closed doors. All meetings are public.
